Influential ministerial delegates and eHealth experts from across Europe have come together to discuss how they can join forces to improve healthcare in Europe through information technology. This year’s eHealth Week, held in Riga, Latvia saw more than 1,300 speakers, delegates and vendors come together to find new ideas and solutions, participate in educational sessions, exhibitions and networking opportunities and make key announcements.
More than 1200 eHealth experts and 81 exhibitors from the 28 EU Member States have gathered in Riga to exchange knowledge and share best practices as part of the annual eHealth Week conference and exhibition. The event kicked off yesterday with a VIP Press Conference and Exhibition Floor Tour, led by three representatives: Dr.Guntis Bel?vi?s, Minister for Health of Latvia, Commissioner Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis and H. Stephen Lieber, CAE President and CEO of HIMSS, who then went on to take part in the "Me and my Health – Transcending Borders" session, together with Toomas H.Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia, officially opening the show.

I consider myself fortunate to have just moved house to a town outside Barcelona. This is the case not just in Spain – which has had a strong HIMSS presence for some time – but throughout Europe and parts of North and South America too.
Beyond ourselves: this could be an overview of our activity since the first issue of Smart Health was launched and reached hospital computers, professional associations, patient associations, sector influencers and companies. The world of eHealth and mHealth has suddenly awaken, and it has done so with powerful sectorial strength, knowing for sure that innovation, technology and business get together in an outstanding emerging sector.
